Varilek is Backing Obama, But What About His Tax Hike?
Sioux Falls - With Matt Varilek's position on the President no longer a mystery, the Republican Party of South Dakota today called on Matt Varilek to take a stand on President Obama's latest proposal to raise taxes on hard working Americans.
"After months of dodging the question, Matt Varilek has at long last endorsed President Obama, but when will Varilek come clean on his support using Obama's tax hike to fuel more wasteful Washington spending," asked Tony Post, Executive Director of the SDGOP.
Varilek Finally Admits to Supporting Obama. "In this midst of a longer interview, I mentioned these releases and asked him whether he was planning on voting for Obama. 'That's right,' Varilek said." (David Montgomery, "Dog bites man," Argus Leader Political Smokeout, July 10, 2012)
Obama Calls for Tax Hike. "President Obama, amid charges of class warfare, pushed Monday for a tax hike on families earning more than $250,000 -- and an extension of the Bush-era tax rates for families making less than that." ("Obama pushes for tax hike on top earners, extension of Bush-era rates for others," Fox News, July 9, 2012)
Matt Varilek Toes The Democratic Party Line On Taxes. "Varilek's ideas mirror the Democrat party line, a line that consistently pushes for spending on things as infrastructure and tax increases on the top tax-brackets." (Nick Lowrey, "'Meet Matt' tour begins Democrats candidacy," The Collegian, Feb. 8, 2012)
Varilek Previously Supported Raising Taxes on Those Earning More Than $250,000. "With Bush-era tax cuts set to expire at the end of the year, Varilek said individuals making $250,000 or more a year should pay more to help bring the nation's budget into balance." (Jonathan Ellis, "Varilek: Learned 'Value of Hard Day's Work,'" Argus Leader, May 26, 2012)
