Rapid City, SD – This afternoon, the South Dakota Republican Party officially nominated their candidates for constitutional office at the 125th GOP State Convention. Delegates from across the state nominated candidates for the offices of Lt. Governor, Secretary of State, Attorney General, State Treasurer, State Auditor, Commissioner of Schools and Public Lands, and Public Utilities Commissioner. Chairman Craig Lawrence had the following to say about the process:
“Today, the South Dakota Republican Party selected our nominees through a time-honored tradition. The delegates have made their choices known and we now stand, shoulder to shoulder, united with our entire Republican ticket. We know that there is still work to be done and we pledge to work tirelessly towards the November elections.”
One of the most anticipated elections this weekend was that of the Republican nominee for Secretary of State. State Senator Shantel Krebs of Sioux Falls received the nomination. Lawrence commented on her selection by saying:
“We are excited to support Shantel in her quest to be the next Secretary of State. She approached the nomination process with great integrity and passion. She embodies what it means to be a Republican and that was demonstrated through her acceptance of our nomination. We have no doubt that Shantel will bring that same type of focus and energy to the General Election.”
Ryan Brunner was nominated for Commissioner of Schools and Public Lands, to replace Vernon Larson, acting commissioner. The convention re-nominated its current slate of serving constitutional officers: Matt Michels, Lt. Governor; Marty Jackley, Attorney General; Auditor, Steve Barnett; Rich Sattgast, Treasurer; and Gary Hanson, Public Utilities Commissioner.
