SDGOP Statement on passing of State Representative Craig Tieszen

November 23rd, 2017

The South Dakota Republican Party is saddened to announce the loss of one of our own this Thanksgiving.

Reports have come in that while on a family outing in the Cook Islands, State Representative Craig Tieszen apparently lost his life while attempting to save the life of his brother-in-law, who also lost his life in a kayaking incident.

The heroic actions of State Representative Tieszen are a testament to a man who from 1975 through his retirement was a member of Law Enforcement with the Rapid City Police Department, rising through the ranks to serve as chief of police from 2000-2007.

Tieszen had previously served in the South Dakota State Senate from 2009 through 2016.

South Dakota Republican Party chairman Dan Lederman noted, “Our hearts are heavy as we remember Tieszen’s life of service, and his love of his neighbors. We are diminished by his loss. Please keep his wife Debra, his children, and his entire family in your thoughts and prayers during this time of loss.”
