Resolutions › Resolution 10: Resolution honoring the life of E. James Abnor

WHEREAS: E. James Abdnor grew up in Kennebec and began his career of service to his country in the United States Army; and

WHEREAS:  He went on to attend and graduate from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln; and

WHEREAS: He served South Dakota as a state senator for 12 years; and

WHEREAS:  He served South Dakota as Lieutenant Governor for four years; and

WHEREAS:  He served honorably in Washington, DC as United States Representative for eight years; and

WHEREAS:  He recognized an opportunity and successfully unseated a three-term United States Senator; and

WHEREAS:  He was widely known to be a South Dakotan at heart, a vibrant and engaging, down-home, public servant who always greeted people by name with a smile; and

WHEREAS:  He was a big fan of high school basketball and had a tremendous interest in the kids who played it; and

WHEREAS: He had a long and joyous retirement and achieved status as one of the grand men of South Dakota politics and public service; and

WHEREAS:  His passing on May 16, 2012, has left a void in policy and politics in South Dakota; and

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED the South Dakota Republican Party honors the memory and legacy of Senator Jim Abdnor.
